Susan Mackey

Susan has been interested in space activities since she was 10. She learned music, electronics, and eventually engineering. Currently, she works in the Radiation Effects and Analysis Group as a Flight Project Lead and a Technology Specialist in COTS Electronics for space applications. While at JPL, she got together a group of rival defense contractors, a few FFRDCs and a commercial FPGA manufacturer to form a cooperative dedicated to quickly and cost effectively characterizing parts for the space environment. This was something new for JPL, but it worked, and led to a partnering philosophy that is still being utilized today. She has been an IEEE member since 1978, a former Chair of the IEEE Society on the Social Implications of Technology, and a member of the Nuclear Sciences Society. Susan's interests include hard extrapolative science fiction, numismatics and how the brains communicate.

Susan's e-mail address is Susan.R.Mackey.1@gsfc.nasa.gov.
