James W. Howard Jr., REA Group Contractor Technical Lead with MEI Technologies. Jim received a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1980. After a tour with the US Navy, Jim completed graduate work with an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering, an M.S. in Mathematics in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and Science in 1990, all from RPI. Since then he has worked as a Research Professor at RPI, an on-site contractor at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center doing space radiation environment and effects, and finally as an on-site contractor at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in the Radiation Effects and Analysis Group. Dr. Howard is active in the IEEE NSREC and has co-authored papers on the effects of radiation on electronics. His work with NASA has been through engineering support for NASA missions as the radiation engineering lead. Significant recent projects include STEREO, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), Chandra Space Telescope, and the International Space Station (ISS).
